Houston man arrested in 5-day kidnap and assault of woman, troopers say

PALMER — A Houston man is accused of assaulting a woman at his home for five days while out on pretrial release for a 2023 kidnapping and sexual assault case.

Terry Tomlinson was arrested Thursday on charges of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree sexual assault, and additional drug and assault charges.

The woman told investigators that Tomlinson, with whom she had a prior relationship, locked her in the bedroom of his house and assaulted her at least 50 times, according to a criminal complaint filed in the case.

She managed to escape through a hole in the room on Wednesday and was taken to another house by a friend, Alaska State Troopers Investigator Craig Markiewicz wrote in a sworn affidavit. The woman was found to have bruising on her body and head lacerations, he wrote.

The woman told troopers she went to smoke methamphetamine with Tomlinson five days prior and he locked the door and chained it shut, the affidavit said. He began assaulting her on Saturday, refusing to allow her to leave, and sexually assaulted her on Wednesday, it said.

Tomlinson is awaiting trial on a January 2023 case in which he was accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in his vehicle, troopers said at the time.

Investigators conducted an interview with Tomlinson early Wednesday morning, according to the affidavit filed with the new charges. He asked for an attorney and was not questioned, it said.

Tomlinson on Thursday remained jailed at the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on charges of first-degree sexual assault and kidnapping as well as fourth-degree assault, misconduct involving a controlled substance, and violating conditions of release.
