Motorcyclist dies in fiery crash near Ship Creek, Anchorage police say

A man driving a motorcycle died Friday night in a fiery collision with a vehicle near Ship Creek that sent the other driver to the hospital with injuries, Anchorage police said.

Officers responded to the vicinity of North Post Road and Yakutat Street, in an industrial area around Ship Creek on the north side of town, just after 9:40 p.m. Friday for a reported vehicle-motorcycle crash, police said in an online update.

Preliminary information indicated that the motorcyclist driving on North Post Road and a man driving a Dodge Charger collided, resulting in both vehicles catching fire, police said.

“A bystander pulled the motorcyclist from the fire and performed lifesaving measures until officers and medics arrived,” the Anchorage Police Department said. The motorcyclist was later declared dead at the scene by the fire department, police said.

Medics took the Dodge’s driver to a hospital with injuries that police described as not life-threatening.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation,” police said. “No charges have been filed.”

Police asked anyone with information about the crash to call dispatch at 311 (option 1) or 907-786-8900 (option 0). Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at anchoragecrimestoppers.com.
