Boy killed, 2 injured in Fairbanks sledding accident

A boy was killed and two were injured Monday in Fairbanks when they sledded down a driveway onto a road and were pinned under a pickup truck, Alaska State Troopers said.

The boys, who were between the ages of 6 and 10, were sledding in a neighborhood off Old Steese Highway around 5:15 p.m., said troopers spokesman Austin McDaniel. The “driver took evasive action to avoid striking the children and drove into a snowbank,” troopers said Tuesday. The driver remained on the scene and was cited for driving with an expired license, McDaniel said.

One boy was declared dead at a Fairbanks hospital, they said. Another boy was flown to a Seattle hospital with serious injuries and the third was treated locally for less serious injuries, troopers said.
